Bring your mom to the Brass Mash show!
Hey friends! This is Stephanie, trumpet player with Brass Mash. We are thrilled with the consistent growth of our community, which expands with every performance we bring to the Central Coast! To delve deeper into the impact of Brass Mash's shows, we sit down with one of our most dedicated fans, who brings a unique perspective to the table - my mom Karen! Join us as we explore the magic of Brass Mash, gaining insight into what makes these shows unforgettable experiences for all ages.
What brings you to the Brass Mash shows?
The great music, the delightful atmosphere, and especially the beautiful woman playing the trumpet! [I don’t know who this lady is referencing, but let’s continue.]
How many shows have you been to? What has been one standout memory?
We’ve been to at least 5 shows, mostly Liquid Gravity, but also the Pour House [and Presqu’ile]. The standout for me is seeing the crowd go nuts! That’s always fun. The dancing, Anthony’s shoes, Colin’s weird voice thing with the tube, and how fun and recognizable the music is. You can recognize at least two or three songs within each mashup. I love that!
What do you think makes Brass Mash appealing to multiple generations?
Max Brown [Stephanie’s stepdad] says when people hear music they recognize, it brings them back to a memory. Most of the music that is involved in the mashups is multi-generational. It’s like, everybody’s heard that! Like classic rock, or pop rock, or there’s always something recognizable that makes them go “Yay! I’ve heard this.”
How would you describe Brass Mash to someone who is just seeing us for the very first time?
The name of the band is what the band does! They mash up different songs. They can relay these songs with just the music, and not necessarily the lyrics. For some reason, when it’s being played, everyone knows the words. The mashups are actually composed by the band, it’s not just made up. It’s something that is worked at and perfected.
Each individual doesn’t try to out-do each other, it’s blended very well together.
Other thoughts or insights?
It’s always surprising and fun, even if I’ve heard the mashup before. The introductions for musicians are always great. It’s fun music to listen to, dance to and sing to. It’s got everything! If it were here [where we live], and if Stephanie Douglass was not in the band, I would still say “Oh! Brass Mash is coming, gotta go see them!” Because it’s a lot of fun. There’s younger, older, a lot of different crowds.
You’re my favorite character that I see on stage! Because you guys are kind of like characters, it’s fun.
Everybody goes out on the dance floor and there’s no one particular dance. Everybody just does whatever, and you can do all different dancing to all the different tunes.
